Donation from Berkshire Masonic Charity
Our lively and intelligent granddaughter Amber aged 18 months died in March 2011 from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). The family was very distressed especially after the roller coaster nature of the course of the four month illness and vowed to do everything possible to help find a cure for this dreadful illness. AML affects about 80 children per year and the cure rate is about 1 in 6.
The family with the help of many friends and generous donations raised over £ 8000 in six months. We approach Oxford University to ascertain their immediate needs and were informed that a blood chemical analysis machine costing £9990 would greatly aid their research into AML. We then approached the Berkshire Masonic Charity to see if they could help with this initiative and contribute towards the shortfall. We were absolutely delighted and very grateful when they gave a pledge of £2000.
We are pleased to say that the equipment has been purchased and is currently undergoing commissioning trials and will be very useful in cutting edge AML research. Without the help of the Masonic Charity it would have taken longer to achieve the shortfall. We are continuing to raise funds for future AML initiatives and will be establishing a charity in Amber’s name so that she is never forgotten.
